“Whoa Bro-bra – the field is fast!” – Nevada Dave

Its the CX Mid-Season officially and oddly I find it humorous and ironic that we’ve come a little late to the ball on several fronts. It’s not a huge deal but some keen observations have been made recently by the Bonebell Crew about staying in touch with the community and just keeping up with our fellow racers. On the topic of our fellow racers – it is clearly evident in Chicago that Cyclocross has taken the city by storm. Registration numbers are at an all time high, cyclocross bikes and parts sales have introduced a bevy of economic movement from local shops, distributors, and online retailers. What used to be the ’slow’ part of the season has now made a high demand for parts and services across bike shops throughout the city. This is is great! In addition, the fields at races have become notably stacked with very strong riders coming off of a great mountain bike or road season. This is bad news for many whose idea of cyclocross training and competition was that it starts in August – 30 days prior to the CX season. Its evident that if you want to be competitive in the growing sport of cyclocross, you are definitely best off having a good training plan for your intervals well in the summer before the fall to come in strong. Consider joining a squad or hooking up at cross practices to get the best benefit out of this. We are stoked to see that the craze has caught on. On the note of Cyclocross racing – its in own genre, its own class, its own, pedigree if you will. The rules are different, the game is different, so keep up the good attitudes, the good vibes, the laid backness at the races. If someone yells ‘Hold your line!’ at a cross race at you – sprint ahead and splash more mud at them, they clearly aren’t getting it.

We’re connected!
So – if you look to the right of our page here – we took down the weather widget because who the hell wants to be reminded about the fact that its getting colder and the trails are getting to that mushy unrideable phase. Instead we were behind in getting in touch and staying linked to the glorious dirtbag community, until now. Take a look at us now – we are on Facebook and Twitter. Thanks to the fine support from Stalelife we found a good way to keep all areas updated easily without driving ourselves nuts in the process of updating a gazillion things. Please do become a fan and suggest our page to all of your dirt riding friends! The larger the community the more awesome some of our planned broadcast events will be.

Next up.
Speaking of broadcasting events – we have an interview with a friend that everyone knows and loves. Stay tuned in the next couple of weeks for a very unique interview. We’ll also start using the events page on Facebook to highlight the races we’ll be at, and rides that will be coordinated throughout the remainder of the year at awesome off-road locales for friends and even families to join in on the action. Thank you as always for reading!
