It was timely that we published the interview with the Chicago Cyclocross Cup Director – Jason Knauff. We here at the ‘Bell, obviously follow and promote the Cross Cup closely. We’ve had our fair share of criticisms and praise for the direction of races in previous years. Truth of the matter is, that every year the Cyclocross racing scene in Chicago is growing by leaps and bounds (thankfully!), and the managing of expectations is also growing in relation to that growth.
Most racing teams, if not all, are primarily volunteered based. Rarely does any rider, including the higher ranked Category 1s, get paid to participate on a team in Cyclocross in Chicago. If you are new to Cyclocross and aren’t on a team – then the expectation to have serious fun and compete very well may be a completely new activity to experience. Racing should be fun – fusses about placement – well, they are warranted, but remind yourself, did you have fun? Is the atmosphere of cross not crazy good enough to make you feel that finishing was the best thing you did that Sunday?
If you want to improve the sport of Cyclocross for yourself and everyone – consider ‘officiating’. It’s to the entire community’s benefit and can help the Cyclocross racing movement grow into a great potential for national, and even international acclaim.
Enough of my thoughts – The Bonebell will be in MadCross this weekend. I’ll get a Belgian to hug the ‘bell for a photo opportunity even if I have to throw myself under their bike to do it. (I’m kidding…..mostly.)
Here’s to Chicago Cyclocross Cup this ‘Fall’.

It‘s quite in here! Why not leave a response?
